Not all illuminated signage lights up the same way — and the style you choose says a lot about your brand before a customer reads a single word. The two most common approaches, halo-lit and front-lit, suit very different applications, and picking the wrong one is a common (and avoidable) mistake we see when businesses brief signage without professional input.
Halo-lit (back-lit) signage mounts LEDs behind a solid letter or logo face, so light spills out softly around the edges onto the wall behind it. It's a premium, understated effect that reads as sophisticated rather than loud — which is exactly why we build it for corporate reception walls and coworking spaces, like the moss-wall Matrix Coworking sign pictured here. It's not built for maximum street visibility; it's built to make a strong first impression up close.
Front-lit signage puts the light source behind or within a translucent acrylic face, so the letters themselves glow brightly. This is the right call when visibility from the street or car park matters more than subtlety — shopfronts, restaurants and any signage that needs to cut through at night. It's brighter, punchier, and reads clearly from much further away.
